THE ROUTE OF ANJOU WINES

The wines of Anjou to be found on the menu of the restaurant of the Château de l’Epinay come from these wine-producing lands of outstanding quality, such as Anjou reds, chenin blanc white and rosé wines, sparkling wine and the Côteaux du Layon. The Côteaux du Layon produces late harvest wines which are as good as many Sauternes, and we recommend our guests to visit the wine cellars where they will be welcomed by wine-makers who will be pleased to share their knowledge.

CHÂTEAU D'ANGERS

 

The Château d’Angers, also known as the Château of the Dukes of Anjou, is located within the town of Angers in the department called the Maine-et-Loire in France. La fortress is built on an outcrop of shale looking out over the river Maine. The French-style gardens decorating the moat are a must-visit.

CHATEAU DE SERRANT

 

Just a few minutes away from l’Epinay, at the Château de Serrant, lovers of history and architecture can discover its richly-furnished medieval rooms and a fascinating library. Every year the moated Château de Serrant plays host to the Festival Kandorya, which is the largest gathering of life-size role play games in France.

CHÂTEAU DE BAUGÉ

 

The famous king René d’Anjou built his hunting lodge here before heading forAix-en-Provence. There is an interactive journey for children has been created to make the visit into a lively, fun event.

CARRÉ COINTREAU

 

In 1875, Edouard Cointreau perfected the original recipe for Cointreau, the drink which is now renowned around the world. You can visit the unique site where it was produced at Saint-Barthélémy d’Anjou and discover the secret of how it is made, based on orange peel. The misuse of alcohol is dangerous for your health.

CHÂTEAU DU PLESSIS-MACÉ

Every year the Château du Plessis-Macé plays host to the actors of the Festival of Anjou. A medieval château, it was redesigned during the Renaissance period and is located around ten miles from Angers.

This château is a real fairy-tale castle. It looks like a fortress surrounded by a moat, and seems to float on the water’s surface. The interior is very rich and sophisticated, making it a ‘must see’ for visitors!

Have the kids seen enough Châteaux? The animals in the Zoo de Doué-la-Fontaine will entertain them by making them journey across Africa. There are giraffes, leopards, tigers, rhinoceros, reptiles and more, a living spectacle that will keep everyone happy.

CHATEAU DE BRISSAC

 

This is the tallest château in France and still remains today the private property of the dukes of Brissac. Enjoy travelling through history as you climb up the stairs to the Château’s seven floors!

PUY DU FOU

 

Elected as the best amusement park in the world, the Puy du Fou is a not-to-be-missed destination where you will forget that you live in the 21st Century! Performances in period costume, falconry, Vikings: a veritable immersion in another world, one you won’t want to leave.

TERRA BOTANICA

The Terra Botanica Park opened in 2010, and is the first theme park focusing on the world of plants. Located in Angers, the park provides a journey to the heart of plants! A 3D film will take you down to the centre of the earth, and will delight young and old alike!

CHÂTEAU DE MONTGEOFFROY

 

The stunning entrance to the grounds of the Château is breath-taking! This fine château dates from the 18th Century and is decorated completely in line with its period, making it an architectural gem not to be missed. A stroll in the garden is also a must.
